Help From God's Word

During times of trouble we struggle with our emotions and often have questions for God. God has already provided us with help and answers from the Bible— His word to us. If you are in need of comfort and peace, we encourage you to read these scriptures.

Biblical Resources

Verses on Anger
  • Ps 4:4 Don't sin by letting anger gain control over you. Think about it overnight and remain silent.
  • Ps 37:8 Stop your anger! Turn from your rage! Do not envy others – it only leads to harm.
  • Ps 138:7 Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will preserve me against the anger of my enemies. You will clench your fist against my angry enemies! Your power will save me.
  • Pr 14:29 Those who control their anger have great understanding; those with a hasty temper will make mistakes.
  • Pr 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger.
  • Pr 19:11 People with good sense restrain their anger; they earn esteem by overlooking wrongs.
  • Pr 25:23 As surely as a wind from the north brings rain, so a gossiping tongue causes anger!
  • Pr 29:8 Mockers can get a whole town agitated, but those who are wise will calm anger.
  • Pr 29:11 A fool gives full vent to anger, but a wise person quietly holds it back.
  • Pr 29:11 A fool gives full vent to anger, but a wise person quietly holds it back.
  • Ec 7:9 Don't be quick-tempered, for anger is the friend of fools.
  • Jer 10:24 So correct me, LORD, but please be gentle. Do not correct me in anger, for I would die.
  • Zep 2:3 Beg the LORD to save you – all you who are humble, all you who uphold justice. Walk humbly and do what is right. Perhaps even yet the LORD will protect you from his anger on that day of destruction.
  • Ro 2:8 But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and practice evil deeds.
  • Ro 3:25 For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God's anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us. God was being entirely fair and just when he did not punish those who sinned in former times.
  • 2Co 12:20 For I am afraid that when I come to visit you I won't like what I find, and then you won't like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfishness, backstabbing, gossip, conceit, and disorderly behavior.
  • Gal 5:19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, 20 idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, the feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your own little group, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. 22 But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives.
  • Eph 4:26 And "don't sin by letting anger gain control over you." Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry,
  • Eph 4:27 for anger gives a mighty foothold to the Devil.
  • Eph 4:31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior.
  • James 1:19-27 19 My dear brothers and sisters, be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 Your anger can never make things right in God's sight.
